Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a tri-meet in Detroit, Mich., on Friday (Oct. 22) night against former conference rivals Wayne State and Davenport.

On the men's side, the Eagles lost 147-79 to the Warriors and 150-79 to the Panthers. The AU women fell 180-58 to WSU and 182-59 to DU.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Junior Franci Aleksi, the reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, picked up where he left off last week, winning the men's 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:52.01.
- Senior Matt Filsinger was the runner-up in both the men's 1,000 free (10:00.01) and the men's 500 free (4:47.20), while finishing third Friday night in Michigan were sophomore Chuck Malberti in men's 3-meter diving (205.95 points), senior Sydney Kermath in the women's 100 backstroke (1:01.48), Aleksi in the men's 500 free (4:47.39), and junior Amar Sapcanin in the men's 100 breaststroke (1:00.76).
