Eagle Men Win At Great Midwest/MEC Relays, Women Second

Ashland University's swimming and diving teams came away with a myriad of top efforts on Saturday (Oct. 16) at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Relays at Malone.
 
The Eagle men won among the six teams on that side of the ledger, finishing with 122 points to second-place Davis & Elkins' 88. The AU women were the runner-up in the eight-team field with 90 points, while Hillsdale won with 140 points.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • Ashland men who won their respective relays on Saturday were the 3x100-yard butterfly relay team of sophomore Josh Hagan, senior Matt Filsinger and senior Jacob Keilholz (2:42.74); the 800 freestyle relay quartet of freshman Robin Falk, junior Franci Aleksi, senior Panos Nikakis and senior Ben Hongell (7:22.92); the 500 free relay of junior Joe Cummins, Keilholz, Falk and Filsinger (4:19.60); the 3x500 free relay team of Aleksi, Falk and Nikakis (15:13.93); the 400 medley relay of junior Amar Sapcanin, Hagan, Cummins and Filsinger (3:44.41); and the 400 free relay team of Falk, Nikakis, Hongell and Keilholz (3:15.59).
  • SECOND PLACE – Men's 3x100 backstroke relay of Filsinger, sophomore Ben Voelker and Cummins (2:48.27); women's 800 free relay of senior Cat Darnell, senior Morgan Gardner, junior Abby Locke and senior Sydney Kermath (8:26.51); women's 400 medley relay of Kermath, junior Makayla Tarkenton, Locke and junior Sydney Laughlin (4:21.09); men's 400 medley relay of Voelker, Sapcanin, Hagan and Hongell (3:40.33); women's 200 free relay of freshman Colleen Cox, Darnell, sophomore Gabby Diehl and Locke (1:44.98); men's 200 free relay of Falk, Cummins, Nikakis and Keilholz (1:29.26); men's 3x500 free relay of freshman Weston Brown, Filsinger and Hagan (15:19.87); and women's 400 medley relay of Laughlin, senior Maddy Moates, Locke and Tarkenton (4:25.44).
  • THIRD PLACE – Women's 3x100 butterfly relay of Locke, Gardner and Laughlin (3:14.99); women's 3x100 backstroke relay of Kermath, Diehl and junior Kaci Agre (3:13.61); women's 3x100 breaststroke relay of Tarkenton, Laughlin and sophomore Sydney Porinchok (3:39.05); men's 3x100 breaststroke relay of Hongell, Filsinger and Sapcanin (3:04.28); and women's 3x500 free relay of freshman Holly Kraemer, Gardner and Kermath (17:14.76).
 
UP NEXT
Ashland's men and women will go to Detroit, Mich., on Friday (Oct. 22) at 5 p.m. to compete against Wayne State and Davenport.
