Without question, both Adam Shaheen and Jamie Meder were two of the best NCAA Division II football players over the last 10 years.

D2Football.Com affirmed that on Tuesday (April 7), as the two former Ashland University standouts were named members of the web site's 2010s All-Decade Team. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have played during any season from 2010-19, but must have completed his eligibility prior to the 2020 season. He must also have been named a D2Football.com All-American in that time period.

Shaheen came to Ashland following a season as a basketball player at Pitt-Johnstown, and in his last two seasons, arguably turned in the best stretch for any tight end in Division II history. His 16 touchdown catches in 2016 not only are an Ashland football record, but they also are the D-II single-season record for a tight end. Shaheen tied the Eagle football single-game record with four touchdown grabs against Northwood on Oct. 8, 2016.

Among Shaheen's numerous honors were his being a Harlon Hill Trophy candidate as a junior, first-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in both 2015 and 2016, and from D2Football.Com and the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) in 2016; two College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America selections, including first-team in 2016; Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2016-17; and two first-team All-GLIAC picks.

Despite only starting for two years, Shaheen is ranked sixth in Ashland's 100-year football history with 129 career catches, and is 10th all-time with 1,755 receiving yards.

Shaheen is the highest-drafted Eagle in National Football League Draft history, having gone in the second round (No. 45 overall) to the Chicago Bears in 2017. In 27 NFL games (13 starts), he has caught 26 passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns.

Meder's collegiate career totals include 247 total tackles (96 solo), 35 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and three forced fumbles. His tackles-for-loss total is third all-time in Ashland football history. Meder was a 2013 AFCA All-American, two-time GLIAC Defensive Lineman of the Year (2012-13), the 2010 GLIAC Freshman of the Year and a four-time first-team All-GLIAC choice, and he was the anchor of a defensive line which helped the Eagles lead the conference in scoring defense and total defense during an undefeated regular season in 2012.

As an undrafted free agent in 2014, Meder has seen time in 44 NFL games (16 starts) with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions, recording 95 total tackles (51 solo), two sacks and a pass breakup. He earned 2016 Week 16 AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors following a blocked field goal which helped Cleveland to its only win of the season on Dec. 24 at home against the San Diego Chargers.

Shaheen and Meder are two of a team-best 10 selections for the GLIAC on the All-Decade Team.
