An 8-0, five-inning win over Malone and a 3-2 loss to Bemidji State in Florida on Monday (March 10) leaves Ashland University's softball team with a 3-1 record on the trip and a 4-4 mark overall in 2020.
Against the Pioneers, the Eagle offense posted a season-high eight runs and 11 hits. Two hits each were turned in by senior second baseman Camille Pollutro, senior first baseman Bree Gill and freshman designated player Cat Lohse, while freshman left fielder Kaitlyn Carney drove in three runs.
Freshman pitcher Kayla Ruperto earned her first collegiate victory, twirling a five-inning three-hit shutout. Ruperto struck out four and walked one.
In the game vs. the Beavers, freshman pitcher Josie Duncan (1-2) took the tough-luck loss, allowing five hits, three runs and three walks and whiffing seven in six innings.
Ashland will continue the annual Florida spring trip on Tuesday (March 10) vs. Missouri-St. Louis at 10 a.m. and Quincy at 12:15 p.m.
