Box Score Ashland University's women's lacrosse team dropped its season-opening match at Tiffin on Sunday (Feb. 23).
The Eagles (0-1) lost, 19-10, to the Dragons (1-0).
Tiffin scored four early goals to put Ashland in an early deficit. The Eagles managed to cut to deficit to two goals when senior Sofia Michael found the net twice in just less than two minutes. Michael added another goal in the first half, along with two more from senior Renee Ruppert, but the Dragons' attack was too much for AU's defense, as they led at the break, 9-5.
The second half was much of the same for AU. Elle Hamilton found the net four more times for Tiffin after the break. Hamilton led all goal scorers in the game with eight.
Michael added three second-half goals to bring her tally to six in the game. Ruppert finished with three goals, and sophomore Mia Rader also tallied one goal.
Junior Melan White made 13 saves in her debut for AU, while Tiffin's Maeve Gatenbee only had to make seven saves in a winning effort.
The Dragons led in shots, 34-25, and shots on goal, 32-18. Tiffin also had a slight edge in draw controls, 16-13.
Ashland will host Notre Dame College in its home opener on Wednesday (Feb. 26) at 4 p.m.
