Beginning the 2020 season at Lewis' Dome Invitational on Friday (Feb. 21), Ashland University's softball team lost to McKendree (3-2) and Missouri S&T (8-2).

The game against the Miners saw the scoreless tie broken with three runs by S&T in the bottom of the third inning. The Eagles countered with two runs in the top of the fourth, thanks to freshman left fielder Kaitlyn Carney scoring on an error, then freshman center fielder Lauren McMillin's RBI single.

Missouri S&T added a run in the bottom of the fifth, then four more in the bottom of the sixth, for the final margin of victory.

McMillin was 2-for-4 in the defeat. Freshman pitcher Kayla Ruperto took the loss, yielding five hits, seven runs (four earned) and four walks and striking out four in 5 2/3 innings.

Ashland (0-2) will conclude play at the Lewis Dome Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 22) against Illinois Springfield at 10 a.m. and Lindenwood at noon.
