Delaney Maynard's Grand Slam Helps Ashland Split Sunday Series Against Tiffin

The Eagles Have Lost Just One Game in G-MAC Play This Season

Following a win over the Findlay Oilers just days ago, the Ashland University softball team split a series against the Tiffin Dragons on the road.

From The Paradiso Athletic Fields on Sunday, March 29, the Eagles took on the Dragons for a two-game conference set. The first game of the day was a close-knit affair, with the home side coming out on top by a run, 5-4, while the second game was a bit more comfortable for Ashland, with the final score reading 11-5.

In game one, the Eagles fell behind relatively fast, allowing Tiffin to hit a pair of home runs and take a 4-0 lead heading into the middle innings. With Ashland not scoring through the game's opening five innings, all the momentum seemed to be in the hands of the home team.

But out of pretty much nowhere, the Eagles exploded to score three runs in the sixth inning. Kate Kujawski started the scoring, singling to bring Amanda Kolar past home plate, before Sidney Payton singled to score two more.

The Eagles then tied the game up in the top of the seventh, with a Kolar home run.

However, a late push from Tiffin in the bottom of the eighth walked the game off for a 5-4 result.

In game two, the Eagles flipped the script, jumping out to a quick start on the offensive end.

The Eagles scored one or more runs in the first and second innings, taking a 3-0 lead early. Ashland then exploded in the fourth inning, erupting for eight runs with Delaney Maynard's grand slam being the headline-grabber.

They were able to practically slam the door shut with an 11-0 lead heading into the late stages of the matchup. Tiffin did respond with five runs in the fifth, getting a grand slam of their own, but Ashland's defense held the game out of reach.

With the results on Sunday, the Eagles move to 17-10 overall on the year and 6-1 in conference play.

Ashland will look to continue tacking on wins in the upcoming week, as on Tuesday, March 31, they travel to Detroit, Mich., to take on the Wayne State Warriors. The two sides will go head-to-head for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. EST.

The matchup will be the last non-conference regular-season game for the Eagles in the 2026 season.
