Ashland Women Lose Exhibition At D-I Purdue

In its final tune-up prior to the start of a new season, Ashland University's women's basketball team lost an exhibition game at NCAA Division I Purdue on Sunday (Nov. 4), 85-69.

The Eagles worked the score to a 71-64 deficit with 5:10 to go in the game before the Boilermakers finished on a 14-5 run. Ashland had outscored Purdue in the second half, 32-24, prior to the late run.

Junior guard/forward Jodi Johnson, the defending NCAA Division II and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, had a team-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, to go with five rebounds and four steals. Junior forward Sara Loomis posted 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

Senior guard Maddie Dackin ended the afternoon with 11 points.

Ashland had 17 assists on 25 made field goals, led by junior guard Renee Stimpert's six helpers.

On Thursday (Nov. 1), the Eagles were picked No. 2 in the 2018-19 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches' Preseason Poll. Earlier in the preseason, Ashland was No. 6 in the first D2SIDA preseason media national poll, and in the 2018-19 GLIAC preseason poll, the Eagles were picked to finish second in the South Division.

Ashland will begin the 2018-19 regular season on Friday (Nov. 9) at 5:45 p.m. vs. Cedarville at Ohio Dominican.
