For the second consecutive day, Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams collected two new and two improved provisional nationals-qualifying marks on Saturday (Jan. 30) at the Penn State National Invitational and the Findlay Classic.
The new provisional marks were earned by sophomore Irene Skinner in the women's 400-meter dash at Penn State (sixth place, 56.62 seconds) and redshirt freshman Kala Strong in the women's weight throw at Findlay (sixth, 17.15 meters/56-feet-3¼).
Improving their previous provisional efforts were senior Lauren Ellsworth in the 200 dash at PSU (fifth, 24.84) and senior Jared Whitcomb in the men's shot put at Findlay (third, 16.45 meters/53-feet-11¾).
Also at Findlay, juniors Nuri Lee (11.25 meters/36-feet-11) and Marlecia Holston (11.15 meters/36-feet-7) finished 1-2 in the women's triple jump, while Holston took second in the women's long jump in 5.46 meters/17-feet-11.
Other second-place showings were turned in by freshman Devin Snowden in the men's long jump (6.71 meters/22-feet-0¼), senior Meghan Cunningham in the women's pole vault (3.43 meters/11-feet-3) and sophomore Hannah Bartlome in the women's high jump (1.63 meters/5-feet-4¼).
Junior Rebecca Koval was third in the women's high jump (1.58 meters/5-feet-2¼), while junior Jamie Hence was third in the men's triple jump (13.33 meters/43-feet-9).
Ashland's men and women will begin February at the Akron Blue/Gold meet on Friday (Feb. 5) and Saturday (Feb. 6).
