Box Score 2 Ashland University's baseball team was no-hit for the first six innings of its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Monday (March 30) at Ohio Dominican.
That was when the fun started.
The Eagles scored 25 runs in the final 10 innings of Monday's twinbill, taking 8-2 and 17-5 decisions from the Panthers to improve to 17-7 overall, 6-2 in the GLIAC and 4-0 in GLIAC South Division play.
Ohio Dominican is 10-10/2-6/0-4.
Down 2-0 and without a hit in the top of the seventh in Game 1, the Eagles put up eight runs and nine hits in that final inning. AU hit three home runs in the seventh – one each by sophomore catcher Adam Vasil, senior second baseman Stephen James and sophomore right fielder Joey Gonzalez.
Vasil drove in three runs, and Gonzalez and junior third baseman Blake Bellman each had two hits. Junior pitcher Art Warren improved to 3-1 after striking out six and allowing four hits, two runs and three walks over six innings.
In the nightcap, Ashland scored five runs in the top of the first and 11 runs in the top of the sixth en route to a fourth straight victory. James was 5-for-6 with two RBIs, four runs scored, two doubles and a home run; Bellman was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored; sophomore designated hitter Steve Mowry had a double, homer and five RBIs and junior first baseman Mike Lewandowski and junior center fielder Nick Edwards each drove in three runs.
Sophomore pitcher Mitch Cox improved to 2-1 out of the bullpen after striking out three in 2 2/3 innings.
The Eagles return to Donges Field on Friday (April 3) and Saturday (April 4) for a four-game GLIAC set with Tiffin.
