Box Score A week ago, in two home games against Walsh and Malone, the Eagles shot so poorly that head coach Sue Ramsey never complained when told that her team, "Couldn't throw it in the ocean if it was standing on the beach."
Thursday (Jan. 23) at Findlay, the Eagles unleashed a tidal wave of points at the Oilers. The home team couldn't catch a wave - or a break - as the Eagles ran away for an 80-55 win.
Ashland is 9-6 and 7-4 in the GLIAC. Findlay is 7-8 and 4-7. The Eagles are tied with Malone for first place in the GLIAC South Division.
AU guard Taylor Woods scored 25 points, 19 in the second half. Woods was 9-of-15 from the floor, 7-of-11 on three-point attempts. She also brought down six rebounds.
Forward Suzy Wollenhaupt put together her fourth double-double of the season. She had 17 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high seven blocked shots.
Guard Alyssa Miller, in her third game back after sitting for six games with a hand injury, had 13 points, six rebounds and eight assists.
The Eagles wasted little time taking control of the game. At the 12:57 mark of the first half, AU led, 16-4. Wollenhaupt scored six points in that opening salvo.
At halftime, the Eagles were ahead, 31-22. At that point, the outcome was still in doubt because the Oilers had regrouped after AU's opening run and this game was, after all, being played at Findlay.
With 16:15 left in regulation, AU had a 38-30 lead. Over the next 4:29 Ashland outscored Findlay, 13-4. With 11:36 to play the Eagles were in front, 51-34. Findlay could never recover.
In the second half, AU outscored the Oilers, 49-33. The Eagles shot 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the field over the final 20 minutes. Woods put on a shooting exhibition. Earlier this year, she established the school single-game record for triples (9). It looked like she could challenge that number in this game. In the second half she was 7-of-10 from the floor, 5-of-7 on three-point shots.
AU shot 58.8 percent (30-of-51) from the floor and 10-of-19 (52.6 percent) from three-point range. The Eagles out-rebounded the Oilers, 45-34.
Margaret Wuebker led Findlay with 21 points.
The Eagles will play at Hillsdale on Saturday (Jan. 25, 1 p.m.).
