Eagles Drop Final Game Of Series At GVSU

Grand Valley State put together a pair of nine-run innings on Sunday (Apr. 28) and downed Ashland, 18-1 in a GLIAC baseball game in Allendale, Mich. The victory gave the Lakers a win in the weekend series. The teams had split a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Lakers scored nine times in the fourth inning and added nine more runs in the fifth. The Lakers had three home runs in the game. The win gives GVSU a 24-13 record, 18-6 in the GLIAC.

AU is 28-15 and 16-11 in conference play.

The Eagles managed six hits in this nine-inning game. No player had more than one hit and AU failed to get an extra-base hit. Anthony Campanella (6-3) pitched seven innings to get the win. He allowed a run on five hits. Campanella walked two and struck out five.

Chris Rudenga went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI. Giancarlo Brugnoni was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Kevin Zak was 3-for-5 with a double. He knocked in two runs.

Senior Brad Thomas (Orrville, Ohio), the first of five Ashland pitchers, took the loss. He went three innings and allowed five runs on five hits.

The Eagles will host Findlay on Wednesday (May 1, 2 p.m.) in a GLIAC doubleheader.
