The Ashland University track and field teams competed at two venues this weekend (Apr. 13-14). Information on both events follows.
Northeast Ohio Invitational – University of Akron
This Invite included the Eagles, Akron, Kent State and Youngstown State.
In the women's 3000 meters, senior Mandy Farson (Massillon, Ohio/Kent State) won the gold medal with a time of 10:32.61. In the high jump Jennifer Foster (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) led the field with a leap of 5-6.
McKenzie Roth (Bellville, Ohio/Clearfork) was second in the 1500 (4:58.2) and freshman Anna Mion (Medina, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) was close behind in third place (5:00.44). Senior Cheryl Bourne (New Straitsville, Ohio/Miller) was third in the 100 hurdles (14.40) and long jump (18-4.25).
Freshman Ali Tolich (Austintown, Ohio/Fitch) was third in the discus (160-5). The women's 4X100 relay was the runner-up in 49.77. The members of that relay were freshman Joyce Badertscher (Apple Creek, Ohio/Waynedale), freshman Katelyn Moore (Burbank, Ohio/Norwayne), junior Mariah Lindsey (Mt. Vernon, Ohio) and junior Katie Nageotte (Olmsted Falls, Ohio).
The 4X400 relay also won silver with a time of 3:54.93. That group included freshman Mary Hitchcock (Steubenville, Ohio/Jefferson Christian), Badertscher and Lindsey.
For the men, junior Craig Call (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren) was first in the hammer (196-6) and senior Tyler Kreim (Shelby, Ohio/Buckeye Central) was first in the javelin (207-8). Freshman Damian Winner (Versailles, Ohio) was second in the 400 (49.65)
The men's 4X4 relay was second (3:24.63). That foursome included freshman Devin Bermudez (Sandusky, Ohio/Perkins), freshman Brian Pongallo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio), senior Wesley Washington (Youngstown, Ohio/Ursuline) and Winner.
Jesse Owens Invitational – Ohio State
As usual AU was dominant in the hammer.
Ashland strength and conditioning coach A.G. Kruger was first (74.40m) and senior Ryan Loughney (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) was second (67.37m) and junior Garrett Grey (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) was third (64.09m). Junior DeAndre Davis (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) was third (10.83) in the 100. In the women's discus, Janine Tessarzik (Altamont, N.Y./Tennessee) was third (49.01m).
