Eagles Open With Win In California

Box Score

New year, new venue, same old Kari Daugherty (Fresno, Ohio/Dayton).

In 2011-12, Daugherty led the nation in double-doubles. Friday (Nov. 9) in Anaheim, Calif., against West Texas A&M, Daugherty was up to her old tricks. She had 26 points and 13 rebounds as the top-ranked Eagles won their opener, 70-48.

Daugherty didn't have to be a one-person show on Friday. Senior forward Daiva Gerbec (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) fired in 12 points and yanked down five rebounds. Senior guard Lindsay Tenyak (Wadsworth, Ohio) had nine points and six rebounds and was 3-for-6 from three-point range.  Sophomore guard Taylor Woods (Wadsworth, Ohio) had 10 points.

The Eagles made life miserable for the Texas team by running out to an early lead. At halftime, the Eagles enjoyed a 34-24 advantage. Life would not get any easier for West Texas A&M in the second half. West Texas shot 36.4 percent from the floor (20-of-55) for the game and was 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) from three-point range.

This was the first of three games for AU on the west coast. Saturday (Nov. 10) the Eagles tangle with Gannon. The Golden Knights have been nationally ranked in several preseason polls.
