Box Score Back on Nov. 12, the Ashland University women's basketball team lost to Minnesota State-Mankato, 63-46 on a neutral court.
Since then, the Eagles have never been stuck in neutral. This team has no concept of what it's like to be spinning its wheels.
Tuesday (Jan. 10) the Eagles won their 12th consecutive game, 89-69 at Cedarville. No AU women's basketball team has ever won more than 12 straight games. This is the fourth time in school history the Eagles have won 12 straight. This is the first time AU has put together a streak this long since the 1996-97 season.
The Eagles (12-1), ranked 15th in the nation, never trailed. Ashland scored the game's first 13 points and led, 13-0 with 17:16 left in the first half. Sophomore guard-forward Ashley Dorner (Bellville, Ohio/Clear Fork) scored eight points in that opening salvo.
Ashland shot 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the floor in the first half and buried 8-of-14 three-point field goal tries (57.1 percent) before halftime. AU ended the game with 10 triples, five by senior guard Jena Stutzman (Berlin, Ohio/Kent State). Stutzman is tied for 20th in the country in treys per game (2.8). Against Cedarville (8-6) she was 5-for-10 from three-point range.
The Eagles were ahead, 54-35 at halftime. AU's largest lead – 27 points, came with 4:14 remaining in the game. This game marked the third time in the last six games that the Eagles scored 85 or more points. The Eagles are averaging 78.7 ppg.
Eight different AU players put a mark in the scoring column. Junior forward-guard Kari Daugherty (Fresno, Ohio/Dayton) notched her seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds. She is averaging 21. 4 ppg., and 11.2 rpg. Over her last three games, she's grabbed 37 rebounds (12.3 rpg.).
Junior guard Lindsay Tenyak (Wadsworth, Ohio) fired in 18 points. Tenyak was 4-for-5 from three-point range. Tenyak is shooting a team-best 46.6 percent (27-of-58) from three-point range this season.
Stutzman had 17 points and Dorner finished with 14 points and six boards. Sophomore point guard Alyssa Miller (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley) had six assists.
Guard Kara Cayton paced Cedarville with 12 points. Guard Kayla Jenerette added 10 points.
The Eagles return to GLIAC action on Thursday (Jan. 12, 6 p.m.) with a game at Tiffin. The Dragons and Eagles split a pair of games last season.
