OT Goal Sends Eagles to First Defeat in Six Games

Box Score

ASHLAND, Ohio -- On Thursday (Oct. 20) night, the Eagles and Panthers played a game in weather intended more for SCUBA divers than for soccer.

It was the Panthers that sent the Eagles diving when the game ended with a goal by Sierra Patterson in the first overtime on a cold, rainy night at Ferguson Field.

For the Eagles (6-6-3, 5-4-3 GLIAC), it was their first defeat in six games and the first goal they have allowed in their last three.

Sophomore Rebecca Plescia (Parma, Ohio/Padua) made four saves, but the final tally stopped a streak of more than 300 scoreless minutes in net.

The goal came in the 99th minute as Jennifer Holton streaked down the right side and sent a cross to Patterson, who touched it past Plescia for the game-winner from about six yards.

The Eagles and Panthers are in a tight race for positioning in the GLIAC South and spots in the GLIAC Tournament.

Ohio Dominican (7-6-2, 5-4-2 GLIAC) out-shot the Eagles, 9-6, and held a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.
