On the third and final day of Wayne State's Warrior Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 22), Ashland University's women's golf team pulled away for an ultimately-comfortable 10-stroke victory in the 14-team tournament.
At 303-303-307—913, the Eagles finished with the fifth-best 54-hole team score in program history. Four of those top five have come in the last six events, and the Eagle "A" team now has won three of its last four regular-season tournaments.
The host Warriors were second at 305-314-304—923, and Lewis took third at 314-310-307—931.
Sophomore
Zoe Mort paced Ashland throughout the tourney, ending in fourth place individually at 72-75-80—227, and with nine birdies.
But Mort wasn't the only Eagle sophomore to finish in the top 10.
Anna Machamer finished fifth at 75-79-74—228 (eight birdies), while
Gracyn Vidovic tied for seventh at 75-83-74—232 (five birdies).
Ending in a tie for 11
th place was senior
LeeAnn Harker at 81-74-79—234 (five birdies), while freshman
Kinsley Brown tied for 36
th (86-75-86—247, seven birdies).
Playing as individuals were juniors
Sammi Miller (tied for 28
th, 81-83-78—242) and
Maddie Fleck (tied for 38
th, 83-86-75—244, five birdies).
Eagle head coach
Ted Chester's third tournament win in a little more than a full season puts him in a tie for third place in program history.
Ashland's women will return to Michigan for another tournament, Grand Valley State's Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite, on Saturday-Monday (Sept. 26-28).
