Ashland University's women's golf team began the non-championship fall portion of the 2026-27 season on Monday (Sept. 14) with 36 holes at Ball State's Brittany Kelly Classic – and the biggest impression was made by a freshman playing her first two collegiate rounds.
Freshman
Kinsley Brown stood out on Day 1 of the NCAA Division I-dominated 14-team field, ending in ninth place individually and ending at 76-71—147. Brown had four birdies on the day.
As a team, the Eagles (310-301—611) stood in sixth place after 36 holes. Host Ball State is first (294-283—577), followed by Morehead State (297-290—587) and Campbell (299-295—594).
Sophomore
Zoe Mort was next for AU, tying for 24
th at 76-76—152 (three birdies), and senior
LeeAnn Harker, who eagled hole No. 15 in the first round, was tied for 32
nd after the first day at 79-75—154 (two birdies).
Another sophomore,
Anna Machamer, is tied for 58
th at 79-81—160 (three birdies), while junior
Sammi Miller is 79
th at 87-79—166 (two birdies).
Playing as an individual is junior
McKenzie Kelso, who is 85
th at 83-86—169 (one birdie).
The third and final round at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Ind., will be played on Tuesday (Sept. 15).
