Ashland Baseball Takes Care of Chargers in Friday Night Meeting, 11-4

Ashland is Now on a Five Game Winning Streak

Another day, another win.

The Ashland University baseball team has pushed its winning streak to five on the campaign, moving up to a 33-14 overall record and a mark of 21-8 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

On Friday, May 1, the Eagles played host to the Hillsdale College Chargers, downing them 11-4. While the game may have been delayed two hours, then cut down from a doubleheader to a single header, the weather craze didn't affect the production on the diamond.

Ashland was able to score 11 runs on 14 hits, taking control early and never really looking back. Collin Overholt, who has been providing consistent at-bats for the team all year, went 3-for-5 from the plate with two home runs, a double and four total RBI.

The Eagles started the game with Overholt's homer in the first, before the Chargers tied things back up in the second. From there, though, Ashland found ways to pull ahead, scoring five runs in the second and five more in the fourth.

When the lead jumped to 11-3, after the fourth inning surge, the Chargers weren't able to do much to spark a comeback.

Jackson Grine earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four runs, three earned.

Ben Sibert threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief and Jackson Powers closed out the game in the ninth. They both combined for 3.1 innings, one hit, one walk and four total strikeouts across 11 batters faced.

The Eagles and Chargers are right back in action on Saturday, May 2, for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST.
