Bring Out the Brooms: Ashland Baseball Sweeps Northwood in Dominant Weekend

The Eagles Head Into the Final Homestand Next Weekend With Momentum Surging

Wins, wins and guess what? More wins.

On Sunday, April 26, the Ashland University baseball team concluded a four-game series against the Northwood University Timberwolves with two more wins to complete the weekend sweep.

The Eagles came into Saturday and Sunday's affairs needing a strong showing as they prepared for the final few games of the 2026 regular season, and with a consistent showing on both sides of the ball, they got the confidence they needed.

In game one, the Eagles pulled out a close-knit victory, 4-3.

The Eagles first got on the board in the third inning, as an RBI single from Ryan Shimek set the tone. They then added another run on the board in the fourth, when Sean Krueckeberg drove in Chris Franks.

Northwood responded with a two-run blast in the bottom half of the fourth, before taking a lead in the fifth.

However, as the Timberwolves did, the Eagles responded.

They tied the game in the seventh inning, before taking back the lead in the eighth on a Franks sacrifice fly.

That would be all Ashland needed to secure the win.

Chase Carter earned the win out of the bullpen with two scoreless innings to close it out.

And in game two, Ashland's offense surged.

After both teams traded runs in the first inning, Ashland took control in the second. The Eagles strung together eight hits in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Collin Overholt and a two-run triple by Sean Krueckeberg. A few knocks later, and Ashland had an 8-1 lead.

Ashland added two more runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Overholt and another from Franks to extend the lead to 10-1.

The Eagles would go on to only give up one more run, winning 10-2.

On the mound, Griffin Ailes earned the win, allowing one run on four hits over five innings while striking out three.

With the two victories, the Eagles jumped up to 32-14 overall on the season and 20-8 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The G-MAC regular season will conclude on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, as the Eagles play host to the Hillsdale College Chargers for a four-game home series. The two sides will clash for the first time on Friday at 1:00 p.m. EST.

The conference tournament will then begin the following week on Wednesday, May 6.
