Two days in a row, the Ashland University softball team was involved in a few low-hit, low-scoring outings.
But this time, the Eagles were able to come out on top.
On Sunday, April 26, the Eagles played host to the Hillsdale College Chargers from the Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, downing them in both games of a doubleheader. The wins help put Saturday's blunders behind them, with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament set to begin in just a few days.
In game one, the Eagles were able to get on the board when Cassidy Shaffer delivered an RBI single to bring home speedster Danielle Robins.
After the game got quiet in the early innings after Shaffer's scoring-knock, the Eagles would get back on the board in the fourth inning as Sophia Martin drove in Raelyn Hoesters with a single to make the game 2-0.
From there, they would close out the game as Delaney Lis tossed a complete-game one-hitter.
In game two, the Eagles wasted no time jumping ahead, plating five runs in the bottom of the first.
The 5-0 cushion would normally scare off opposing teams, but the Chargers were able to chip away throughout the game, scoring twice in the third and adding two more in the fifth to cut the deficit to one.
However, Ashland responded in the bottom of the fifth when Ashley Veldheer delivered a two-RBI single to push the lead back to 7–4.
The Chargers continued to battle, adding a run in the seventh and bringing the tying run to the plate, but Delaney Lis, who pitched game one, came in late and closed the door to earn the save and secure the victory.
With the wins, the Eagles are now 29-15 overall and 17-6 in G-MAC action.
This year's G-MAC championships are set to begin on Wednesday, April 29, running through Saturday, May 2.
