On Wednesday, April 15, the Ashland University softball team won a two-game series against the Malone University Pioneers from the Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex.
The Eagles were able to weather the storm and defeat the Pioneers in extra innings in game one, 3-2.
But in game two, with momentum surging, it was a combination of controlled pitching and consistent bats that helped surge the team to another comeback win, 6-5.
To kick things off on Wednesday, the two teams traded blows early and often. They were consistently getting on the bags before the pitchers on the mound held the opposing team's bats at bay.
Malone struck first in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, but Ashland answered in the bottom half with an RBI single from Sidney Payton to even the score.
The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Cassidy Shaffer delivered an RBI single, but Malone responded in the sixth with a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2.
After several scoreless innings, Ashland broke through in the 10th.
Amanda Kolar came through with a walk-off RBI single to score Danielle Robbins, who started the inning on second base, and secure the win.
Ashland totaled 10 hits in the game, led by Shaffer's three-hit performance and Robbins' two-hit, two-run effort.
In the circle, Delaney Lis went the distance, tossing all 10 innings while allowing just two runs to earn the victory.
Ashland erased an early deficit and walked off Malone for a 6-5 win on Wednesday afternoon.
Malone jumped out to control early, scoring four runs in the second inning and adding another on a solo home run in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
Ashland began to chip away in the third when Amanda Kolar drove in a run, then cut the deficit to 5-2 on Delaney Maynard's solo home run in the fifth.
The Eagles broke through in the sixth inning. Raelyn Koesters delivered an RBI single before Maren Metikosh tied the game with a two-run home run, making it 5-5.
In the seventh, Ashland completed the comeback. Danielle Robbins reached and eventually scored on Cassidy Shaffer's RBI single to seal the 6-5 victory.
With the two wins, the Eagles' 2026 record has jumped to 25-12 on the campaign and 14-3 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Moving ahead, the Eagles will prepare for a Sunday doubleheader against the Ursuline College Arrows. They'll take on the Arrows in Pepperpike, Ohio, with the first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. EST.Â
