Ashland wasted no time asserting itself on Thursday afternoon.
Behind a dominant first quarter, the Ashland University women's lacrosse team comfortably rolled past Walsh, 19-5, at Larry Staudt Field. With the win, the Eagles remain unbeaten in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at 5-0, all while sporting an overall record of 10-4.
Ashland broke open a 1-1 game with a "don't blink" 9-0 run in the opening quarter, turning an early deadlock into a 10-1 lead after 15 minutes.
That first frame start allowed them to trot through the second quarter, heading into the halftime break with a 14-2 edge.
To begin the third quarter, the Eagles started to sit back and waste time, scoring three goals and allowing just one to go by. In the fourth, they maintained that style of play, scoring two goals and allowing one.
Lily Cain led the way with three goals and three assists, while Rachel Crumbacher added a hat trick and an assist. Ashley Fisher also netted three goals, and Gianna Edgerly, Sam Weaver and Ashley Drexler each added multi-point efforts.
Defensively, Ashland held Walsh to just five goals on 17 shots. Goalkeeper Annie Duncan earned the win, making three saves in 45 minutes of action.
With the win, the Eagles now prepare to take on the Malone Pioneers on Saturday, April 11, in a road contest. The two sides will clash from Canton, Ohio, with just a few games left in the regular season.
