Box Score 1 The Ashland University softball team snagged the first outing of a two-game set against the University of Findlay Oilers.
But then, the rain started to come down.
On Thursday, March 26, the Eagles took on the Oilers in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference play bout, winning the first game, 8-6. However, when turning the page to game two, the Eagles and Oilers were only able to get a couple of innings down before the weather caused the game to be stopped numerous times.
Unfortunately, a make-up game for the second game has not yet been decided. When it was paused, the Eagles were leading, 5-3.
In game one, the Eagles broke open the scoring in the third inning. They were able to score six runs on just three hits, while capitalizing on fielding errors. Hits from Amanda Kolar and Kate Kujawski helped spark the rally, one that Ashland never really let go of.
After Findlay chipped away with two runs in the sixth, Ashland responded in the seventh when Sophia Martin delivered a clutch two-RBI double to extend the lead to 8–2.
Findlay made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs and bringing the tying run to the plate, but Ashland pitcher Delaney Lis was able to finish the game and secure the win.
With the one-game result, the Eagles are now 16-8 overall on the season and 5-0 in conference action.
Up next, they'll look to bounce back against the Tiffin University Dragons on Sunday, March 29, for a two-game road series. The first game will be played at 1:00 p.m EST, with the second game to directly follow.Â
