Eagle STUNT Splits Opening Day of Ashland Invite, Winning Senior Day Game

The Eagles Clinched a Spot in the G-MAC Tournament on Saturday

The Ashland University STUNT team kicked off its Ashland Invite by splitting its games on Saturday, March 21.

In the Eagles' first game of the day, they fell to the Davenport Panthers, 26-17, giving the team its sixth loss of the year. However, while it may be a loss in the win-loss column, plenty of individual routine and level results made the contest easier to swallow.

The Eagles won the game's opening points, going up 2-1 over the Panthers, and also secured two points or more in each quarter. In the fourth quarter of action, they were able to score eight points to help cap off the game on a high note.

Saturday also marked the most amount of points scored by the Eagles against the Panthers in program history.

Although they fell, Ashland was able to take bits of momentum into the team's second game of the day, where they took on the Malone Pioneers for a Senior Day celebration.

The Eagles led, 4-3, after the first quarter of action. They then built upon their lead, taking a 9-5 edge into the halftime break. To kickstart the second half, the Eagles grabbed six points in the third quarter, pushing them to a 15-7 lead.

To wrap things up, the Pioneers made a slight push, outscoring the Eagles, 10-9, but still fell, 24-17. The Eagles' early success was too much to claw back from.

With the split results on Saturday, the Eagles move to 15-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

They'll look to next take on the Michigan State Spartans and Central Michigan Chippewas on Sunday, March 22, for Day 2 of the invite. The Eagles will first take on the Spartans at 4:15 p.m. EST, with the game against the Chippewas to follow.
