Make that three straight for the Ashland University baseball team.
On Saturday, March 21, the Eagles traveled to the campus of Walsh University to take on the Cavaliers in games two and three of a four-game series. The Eagles, who won convincingly on Friday, 7-2, came out with plenty of momentum on Saturday and never looked back.
In the opener, Ashland secured a 3-1 victory in a tightly contested game. Walsh struck first with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, but Ashland's offense remained patient before breaking through late.
The Eagles tied the game in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Drew Stevens, then pulled away in the eighth when Stevens delivered again with a two-run home run. Stevens accounted for all three RBIs in the win.
On the mound, Drew Becker was dominant, tossing a complete game with 10 strikeouts while allowing just one run on five hits.
Ashland carried that confidence and momentum into game two, earning a 6-1 win to complete the sweep.
The Eagles jumped on the board immediately with a leadoff home run from Sean Krueckeberg, then broke things open with a three-run third inning highlighted by RBI hits from Nate King, Billy Howard, and Sam Witt.
Ashland added insurance runs later in the game, including a solo home run from Max Albert and an RBI double from King.
On the mound, Josh Stalnaker picked up the win, striking out eight over four innings while allowing just one run. Ben Zink followed with three scoreless innings, striking out six to close out the game.
With the sweep, Ashland improved to 14-7 on the season, while Walsh dropped to 7-12.
Up next, the Eagles will finish off the series on Sunday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m. EST in North Canton, Ohio.
