The Eagles split at a tri-meet hosted on Senior Day.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, the Ashland University wrestling team hosted the Glenville State Pioneers and Thomas More Saints inside of Kates Gymnasium at home. The Eagles were able to snag numerous individual wins, including a team victory over the Saints, 30-15.
The clear standouts were Fletcher Rose and Hayden Flynn, who both took two wins home for the Eagles.
To start the day, the Eagles took on the Pioneers, with them being able to snag a quick win in the 125-pound weight class. Luke Acuna took a 10-4 decision over Glenville State's Garrett Johnson.
After that, the Eagles cooled off a bit before finding a crowd-seizing pin from Flynn in the 174-pound weight class. The pin came after 4:07 against Zach Meisenzahl. Down 15-3 prior to that moment from Flynn, the Eagles jumped right back into the match, with the score turning to 15-9.
They then rattled off another win, with Rose beating Zachary Holstion by a major decision, 10-2, at 184. This brought the scoreline within two points, 15-13.
The Pioneers held an 18-15 advantage heading into the final weight class, before snagging another six points via pin. The Pioneers would win, 24-13.
In the Eagles' second match-up against the Saints, they started with a ??win in the 157-pound weight class, as Hayden Kuhn took down Hunter Isaacs via technical fall, 16-1, in 5:08.
Prior to that, there were four forfeits and a win at 141 for Thomas More.
Heading into the back-half of the match-up, with four weight classes left, the Eagles were leading 17-12. In 174, Hayden Flynn snagged his second win of the day, defeating Liam Schram of Thomas More by decision, 11-4.
After Flynn's win, Rose tacked on another of his own in an 11-2 major decision over Saint Zavier Campsey.
The Eagles finished with a win at 285, with Wyatt Bailey pinning Thomas More's Joseph Scarborough at 5:56.
They finished with a 30-15 victory over the Saints, bouncing back after the defeat to the Pioneers.
Up next, the Eagles begin preparation for the NCAA championships, where they'll first compete on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Super Regionals, taking place in Findlay, Ohio.
