The Eagles attempted to rally, but a tough road atmosphere made it hard.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Ashland University men's basketball team traveled to the Callan Athletic Center in Cedarville, Ohio, falling 74-62. The loss knocks the Eagles down to 17-7 overall on the season and 11-5 in conference play. However, they still hold a top spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings.
Forward Maceo Williams led the team with a strong 17 points and 11 rebounds.
In the opening half of action, the Yellow Jackets were shooting at an efficient rate, knocking down 50% of their shots from the field. They also hauled in 20 rebounds compared to the Eagles' 14.
Ashland held strong, keeping the game close through 20 minutes, but was still trailing 38-29.
Heading into the second half, the Eagles were able to turn up the intensity on the offensive end, knocking down 13 field goals and nine three-pointers, while the Yellow Jackets hit just nine and three.
The big difference maker was 15 free throws from the home team, which was enough to hold the Eagles' comeback down.
In total, three players finished in double figures, with Williams leading the bunch, as guard Max Dawson and forward Destin Logan posted 16 and 11, respectively.
The next team on the Eagles' schedule is the Hillsdale Chargers.
The two sides will clash from Kates Gymnasium on the campus of Ashland University on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 3:00 p.m EST. The outing will serve as the program's senior night, celebrating those who have helped lead the team during their time sporting the purple and gold.
