Thursday (Jan. 8) night at Lake Erie, Ashland University's women's basketball team earned its third consecutive victory, all within the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, 67-49.
The Eagles improve to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the league, while the Storm are 3-10, 2-5.
Neither team got off to a strong offensive start on Thursday night, and five minutes in, the Storm had a 7-6 lead. Coming out of the game's first media timeout, however, the Eagles scored nine points in a row to move in front – and force Lake Erie to stop the contest.
After the first quarter, Ashland led 18-8 – and didn't turn the ball over once.
The Eagles went up by double digits at 29-19 inside of the three-minute mark of the second quarter, then that lead was extended to 35-19 at the end of an 11-0 AU run. Ashland hit on 51.9 percent from the field in the first half, and kept Lake Erie to 24.1 percent.
Halfway through the third quarter, the Eagles went up by 20 points for the first time (45-25), but with 10 minutes to go, the Storm had worked the score back to 49-36.
Ashland kept Lake Erie off the scoreboard for nearly half the fourth quarter en route to victory.
SLATES BACK ON THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE BOARD
- Freshman forward Jenna Slates earned her seventh double-double of the season on Thursday night (19 points, 12 rebounds).
- Senior guard Alysa Lopez scored a season-high 18 points, and added five rebounds, three assists and a block.
- Redshirt freshman forward Kyra Hill (eight points) was the 10th different Eagle to start a game in 2025-26.
- The Eagles turned the ball over just eight times – marking back-to-back games with single-digit turnovers for the first time since March 11 and 13, 2023.
- AU turned 11 Lake Erie turnovers into 17 points.
