For the second time this season, Ashland University freshman forward
Jenna Slates has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference women's basketball Athlete of the Week.
As revealed by the league on Tuesday (Jan. 20) afternoon, Slates garnered the honor following her play at Tiffin on Thursday (Jan. 15) night, which helped the Eagle women win their fifth game in a row, 73-63.
Slates finished the night with 14 rebounds for a second straight game, and scored a game-high 23 points, for her ninth double-double of the season. She shot 8-of-14 from the field, was a career-best 7-of-7 from the free-throw line, and added three assists and two steals.
Through Monday (Jan. 19), Slates is in the in the top 10 in NCAA Division II in both double-doubles (nine, tied for ninth) and rebounds per game (ninth, 11.1). She continues to pace D-II women's basketball freshmen in boards per contest, and is averaging 15.2 points per game.
Ashland (10-5 overall, 6-3 Great Midwest) will return to the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium for a game with Ursuline (4-13, 1-9) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 22).
