No. RV Baseball Tops Cedarville, Takes League Series In All-Time Win No. 1,900

A 4-0 win for the No. RV Ashland University baseball team on Saturday (March 29) afternoon at Cedarville marked the Eagles' 1,900th all-time.

The Eagles are 18-8 overall and 10-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (two games behind first-place Northwood in the North Division) after their 12th win in the last 14 contests. The Yellow Jackets are 12-16, 5-7.

Saturday's win also was head coach John Schaly's 1,332nd all-time, moving him into a tie for 22nd place on the NCAA all-time, all-levels baseball victories list.

Ashland wasted no time taking the lead, doing so in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by senior third baseman Jeremiah Cangelosi. Then, in the third, graduate left fielder Max Caron made it a 2-0 game on a run-scoring groundout, and Cangelosi picked up his second RBI of the day on another RBI hit.

Freshman center fielder Sean Krueckeberg upped AU's lead to 4-0 after scoring on a wild pitch in the fifth.

SCOTT AND SMITH PUTTING UP ZEROES…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
  • Senior right-hander Cam Scott (2-1) earned the win after seven shutout innings, featuring eight strikeouts and two hits and two walks allowed. Scott took a no-hitter into the seventh inning en route to the victory.
  • Junior righty David Smith finished the contest with two shutout innings and two Ks.
  • Krueckeberg was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two stolen bases and three runs scored.
