On Saturday (March 22) afternoon, Ashland University's softball team split a Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader at Cedarville – taking the first game 5-4 and losing Game 2 by a 7-6 count.
The Eagles now are 15-9 overall and 5-1 in the league, and the Yellow Jackets are 9-18, 4-2.
Saturday's opener saw the Eagles strike in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from senior pitcher
Cassidy Shaffer. Shaffer's RBI double and sophomore third baseman
Sophia Martin's three-run home run, her second of 2025, lifted Ashland to a 5-0 lead through 2½ innings.
Cedarville scored two runs in the fourth to get on the board, then added another in the fifth and the sixth to cut the AU lead to a single run.
In Game 2, sophomore left fielder
Maren Metikosh's RBI single put the Eagles up in the top of the first, then senior first baseman
Lily Rockwell followed with a two-run single for a 3-0 lead through a half-inning.
The Yellow Jackets came back with five runs in the second, then added another run in the sixth. Trailing 6-3 going into the sixth inning, Ashland countered with an RBI single from sophomore right fielder
Delaney Maynard, then the Eagles tied the game at 6 later in the sixth when Shaffer delivered a two-run single.
Cedarville, however, won the nightcap with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

- The opener saw sophomore catcher Delaney Keith, Shaffer and Martin all collect two hits, and Martin (three) and Shaffer (two) each drive in multiple runs.
- Junior pitcher Delaney Lis (7-2) pitched the last 3 1/3 innings in relief, striking out two and allowing four hits, two runs and no walks.
- Game 2 saw Shaffer end 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Keith finish 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
- Senior pitcher Bryn Grabowski (4-5) came in to the game in relief, struck out two and allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and no walks in 4 2/3 frames.
