Ashland University's women's lacrosse team continued its lengthy homestand at Ferguson Field on Saturday (March 15) afternoon, losing a tight 13-11 decision to No. 14-ranked Grand Valley State.
The Eagles are 3-4 this season, and the Lakers are 5-1. AU is 0-5 all-time against GVSU, but Saturday's contest was the closest margin in the series.
Ashland closed to within a goal at 5-4 in the second quarter, then 7-6 in the third period, then scored three straight goals to close to within two late in the game.
FISHER LEADS THE OFFENSE AGAIN…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
- Junior attacker Ashley Fisher paced the Ashland offense with seven points (three goals, four assists), and freshman attacker Tori Wanat followed with four points (three goals, one assist).
- The Lakers had a slim 27-25 shots advantage, and turnovers were close, as well (AU 17, GVSU 16).
- Junior goalkeeper Annie Duncan made eight saves on Saturday.
