Ashland University's men's basketball team won for the eighth time in the last 11 games on Saturday (Feb. 8), as the Eagles defeated Northwood on the road, 73-55.
The Eagles are 13-8 overall and 9-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference – and move into a tie for third place in the league standings. The Timberwolves are 7-16, 3-12.
Four early lead changes left the Timberwolves with a 9-5 lead inside of the 14-minute mark of the first half. A 5-0 Eagle spurt gave them a 10-9 lead, then after Northwood followed with five in a row, Ashland came back with 14 straight to go back ahead at 24-14.
The Eagles kept pulling away, with sophomore wing
Aden Gregory at the catalyst, and despite a late Timberwolves surge, Ashland led 38-32 at the break. Gregory scored 13 points in 15 minutes off the bench.
Neither team was able to pull away from the other to start the second half, and at the under-16 media stoppage, the Eagles' advantage was 42-37. With Northwood creeping back to a six-point deficit at 51-45, Ashland went on a 12-2 run for its biggest lead of the night to that point at 63-47.
