On Thursday (Feb. 13) night at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium, Ashland University's men's basketball team lost 71-58 to Malone in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.
The Eagles are 13-9 overall and 9-6 in the league, and the Pioneers go to 11-13, 7-9.
Malone took a 16-4 lead halfway through the first half, and the Pioneers' largest halftime advantage was 22-9. That's when Ashland began to rally, thanks to back-to-back 3-point field goals from sophomore wing
Cooper Davis and senior guard
Gbolahan Adio.
By halftime, the Pioneers led 32-24 – paced by 11 second-chance points on eight offensive rebounds.
Early in the second half, Malone kept Ashland at arm's length, and at the under-16 media timeout, led 41-31. Five more Pioneer points gave them their largest lead of the game to date at 46-31.

- Junior forward Maceo Williams finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, and with 1,240 career points, is tied for 18th on the program's all-time scoring list.
- Graduate forward Javin Etzler ended with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
- The Eagles made 51.1 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from 3-point range, but Malone hit 50.9 percent from the floor – the first team to make at least half their shots vs. AU in 26 games.
