Men’s Basketball Loses League Home Game To Pioneers

On Thursday (Feb. 13) night at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium, Ashland University's men's basketball team lost 71-58 to Malone in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.

The Eagles are 13-9 overall and 9-6 in the league, and the Pioneers go to 11-13, 7-9.

Malone took a 16-4 lead halfway through the first half, and the Pioneers' largest halftime advantage was 22-9. That's when Ashland began to rally, thanks to back-to-back 3-point field goals from sophomore wing Cooper Davis and senior guard Gbolahan Adio.

By halftime, the Pioneers led 32-24 – paced by 11 second-chance points on eight offensive rebounds.

Early in the second half, Malone kept Ashland at arm's length, and at the under-16 media timeout, led 41-31. Five more Pioneer points gave them their largest lead of the game to date at 46-31.

  • The Eagles made 51.1 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from 3-point range, but Malone hit 50.9 percent from the floor – the first team to make at least half their shots vs. AU in 26 games.
