Getting back into game action for the first time in more than three weeks, Ashland University's softball team went 1-1 at the Sue Morris Sports Complex Classic on Monday (Feb. 24), losing 6-2 to Bowie State and topping host Glenville State, 3-1.

Ashland is 3-3 prior to Spring Break.
The Eagles' game vs. the host Pioneers was scoreless until the top of the fifth, when sophomore catcher
Sophia Martin delivered a two-out RBI double, then scored on a wild pitch.

Glenville State returned serve with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles got that run back in the top of the seventh when senior designated hitter
Cassidy Shaffer delivered an RBI single.

In the game against Bowie State, the Bulldogs scored in the top of the first, then the Eagles responded with a run in the bottom of the second when senior first baseman
Lily Rockwell hit a solo home run – the first of her AU career.

After Bowie State regained the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fifth, sophomore shortstop
Sophia Smithnosky drove in the tying run with a single in the bottom of the fifth. The Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the sixth to go ahead at 4-2, then added two more runs in the seventh for the final margin of victory.

GRABOWSKI STRONG IN THE CIRCLE AGAIN…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
- Senior pitcher Bryn Grabowski (2-0) twirled a four-hitter against Glenville State, allowing a run and a walk and striking out two.
- Of AU's nine hits vs. the Pioneers, seven came from three players – Martin (3-for-4, run scored, RBI, double), junior second baseman Danielle Robbins (2-for-4, two runs scored, stolen base) and Shaffer (2-for-4, RBI).
- Against the Bulldogs, junior pitcher Delaney Lis (1-1) went the distance, allowing nine hits, six runs (three earned) and five walks and striking out five.
