WIN 1,000! No. 16 AU Women Earn Milestone Victory At No. RV Lee

On Saturday (Nov. 22) afternoon in Tennessee, the No. 16-ranked Ashland University women's basketball team reached the 1,000-all-time-win plateau, defeating No. RV Lee on the road, 89-78.

The Eagles are 2-2, and the Flames are 2-1.

Ashland is the 13th NCAA Division II women's basketball program to earn 1,000 all-time victories.

Balanced offense was one key for Ashland. Sophomore guard Corri Vermilya, one game after scoring a career-high 21 points at Indiana (Pa.), posted another one with 24 points in her first start of 2025-26.

Another Eagle who scored a career-high in points on Saturday was sophomore point guard Ashley Mullet, who collected all of her 23 points in the final three quarters. She was 7-of-9 from the field, 3-for-3 from 3-point range and hit all six free throws.

The Eagles led 22-18 through the first quarter, and half of those AU points came courtesy of Vermilya. But by the time the two teams went into the locker room, Ashland had its highest-scoring half of the young season, leading 51-31.

In the first 20 minutes, the Eagles made 6-of-8 from 3-point range, 57.1 percent from the field overall, and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, and turned the ball over just three times. Vermilya scored 14 points, and freshman forward Jenna Slates added 11.

That halftime advantage was Ashland's largest of the game, and the Eagles kept the Flames at bay throughout the second half.

THE BACK TO .500 RECAP
  • Both Slates and senior guard Alysa Lopez finished with 13 points, as four Eagles scored in double figures.
  • Ashland ended with percentages of 50.8 from the floor, 46.7 from beyond the arc and 94.7 from the charity stripe.
  • The Eagles turned the ball over 10 times in the victory.
