Eagle Men Win At Thomas More, Extend Recent October Success

In 2024, Ashland University's men's soccer team used a 7-1-1 October to propel it to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.

On Thursday (Oct. 2) night, the Eagles started October 2025 off on the right foot – a 3-0 win at Thomas More.

Ashland is 3-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the Great Midwest, while the Saints are 3-4-1, 2-2-1.

Senior forward Soshi Tanaka got the Eagle scoring going in the 14th minute with an unassisted goal, his team-high-tying fourth of the season. In the 31st minute, senior defender Flynn Toon's initial goal of the fall put AU on top, 2-0.

The scoring closed in the 83rd minute, as junior midfielder Sergio Ruiz potted his first goal of the fall, unassisted.

That was more than enough offense for sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Boned (3-4-1), who made four saves for his first clean sheet as an Eagle.

WRAPPING IT UP
  • Ashland had a slight 11-9 shots advantage (9-4 on shots on goal).
  • The Eagles took 11 of the game's 14 corner kicks.
NEXT UP
Ashland will return to Ferguson Field on Saturday (Oct. 4) at 6:30 p.m. vs. Malone.
