Ashland University's men's soccer team took a 2-1 loss to Malone in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game on Saturday (Oct. 4) at Ferguson Field.
The Eagles are 3-5-1 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while the Pioneers are 1-8, 1-5.
Ashland wasted little time in going on top, as, in the 10
th minute, senior forward
Rodri Jimenez put his first goal of 2025 into the net. The assist went to senior defender
Abdul Kawa, his first of the fall.
Malone, however, knotted the contest at 1 late in the first half. In the 41st minute, Mason Gradel scored on an open net following passes from Anthony Birus and Dylan DiPiero.
The Pioneers then scored the game-winner with 63 seconds left, as Birus put the ball in the back of the net on an assist from Alexander Castro Morales.
WRAPPING IT UP
- Ashland finished with a 15-9 shots advantage over Malone (9-4 on goal).
- The Eagles took eight of the game's nine corner kicks.
