To begin play at the 2025 Houston Winter Invitational at Daikin Park, the No. 29-ranked Ashland University baseball team lost 15-5 in eight innings to No. 3 Central Missouri on Friday (Jan. 31) night – in the season opener for both teams.
The Eagles didn't waste any time getting comfortable in their new surroundings, scoring in the top of the first inning when senior third baseman
Jeremiah Cangelosi delivered an RBI single. Ashland then scored for a second consecutive frame, as graduate designated hitter
Max Caron added an RBI double.
Central Missouri came back with a run in the bottom of the second and six in the bottom of the third to take the lead for the first time at 7-2. The Mules added two each in the fourth, sixth and seventh for a 13-2 advantage.
Ashland cashed in with three runs in the top of the eighth, thanks to an RBI single from freshman pinch-hitter
Colton Hunt and a two-run safety by Caron. Central Missouri added one more two-spot in the bottom of the eighth to conclude the game.

- Both Cangelosi and Caron each had three of AU's 11 hits on Friday, with Caron driving in three runs.
- Junior left fielder Billy Howard went 2-for-4.
- Senior left-hander Brendan Beaver (0-1) went the first 2 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, seven runs and four walks and striking out one.
