No. 29 Eagles Lose Houston, Season Opener To No. 3 Mules

To begin play at the 2025 Houston Winter Invitational at Daikin Park, the No. 29-ranked Ashland University baseball team lost 15-5 in eight innings to No. 3 Central Missouri on Friday (Jan. 31) night – in the season opener for both teams.

The Eagles didn't waste any time getting comfortable in their new surroundings, scoring in the top of the first inning when senior third baseman Jeremiah Cangelosi delivered an RBI single. Ashland then scored for a second consecutive frame, as graduate designated hitter Max Caron added an RBI double.

Central Missouri came back with a run in the bottom of the second and six in the bottom of the third to take the lead for the first time at 7-2. The Mules added two each in the fourth, sixth and seventh for a 13-2 advantage.

Ashland cashed in with three runs in the top of the eighth, thanks to an RBI single from freshman pinch-hitter Colton Hunt and a two-run safety by Caron. Central Missouri added one more two-spot in the bottom of the eighth to conclude the game.
