Ben Peltz gave Ashland University's No. 29-ranked baseball team an 8-7 win over No. 23 Arkansas Tech on Day 2 of the Houston Winter Invitational at Daikin Park.

Peltz's game-winner evened the Eagles' early-season record at 1-1, while the Wonder Boys are 0-2.

Arkansas Tech scored twice in the top of the second inning to take the early lead, but graduate designated hitter
Max Caron continues to enjoy playing down south, launching a solo home run in the bottom of the second to get AU on the board.

Junior left fielder
Billy Howard's run-scoring single in the bottom of the third knotted the game at 2, then senior first baseman
Cam Scott launched a three-run shot later in the third to put AU ahead at 5-2.

The Wonder Boys responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth to cut their deficit to 5-4, then they added two more in the top of the sixth to regain the lead at 6-5.

Senior center fielder
Cam Miller's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth pulled the Eagles even at 6-6, and the score stayed the same until extra innings.

Moving to the international tiebreaker rule to start the 10
th, Arkansas Tech scored once in the top of the frame. Junior right fielder
Chris Franks tied the game at 7 with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10
th – setting up Peltz's game-winner.

CARTER GETS THE W OUT OF THE 'PEN…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
- Senior right-hander Chase Carter (1-0) went the final two innings for the relief win, allowing a hit and an unearned run and striking out one.
- Saturday's victory was the Eagles' first all-time in the state of Texas.
