No. 15 AU Women Run Win Streak To Eight After Victory At Saints

The No. 15-ranked Ashland University women's basketball team increased its winning streak to eight games following a 78-49 win at Thomas More on Saturday (Jan. 11) afternoon.

With the victory, the Eagles are 14-3 overall and 6-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference – remaining a half-game behind first-place Malone near the top of the league standings.

Ashland's six league wins this season have come by 31, 37, 30, 39, 23 and 29 points.

An early 3-2 Saints (6-9, 3-4) lead turned into a 9-3 Eagles advantage. Thanks to a Thomas More scoreless streak of more than three minutes, that AU lead grew to 14-5.

Senior forward Zoe Miller was a one-woman wrecking crew in the first quarter, picking up 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists as Ashland led 19-11 going into second stanza.

A layup and a 3-point field goal from senior forward Hayley Smith gave the Eagles their biggest lead so far at 30-14, and led to a Saints timeout. Ashland had a 20-plus-point lead for the first time at 38-17, and by halftime, it was 43-17 – as the Eagles had nine treys and seven two-point baskets.

Miller had 12 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of 2024-25 – at the half.

As the Eagles' lead grew in the third quarter, so did their 3-pointer total. Ashland led 65-29, and had a dozen threes.

MILLER ON THE MOVE…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
  • Miller became the first Eagle to lead the team in scoring in three straight games this season on Saturday, posting a game-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with 12 rebounds, four assists and a block. She moved into 24th place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,133 career points.
  • Smith added 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal, freshman point guard Ashley Mullet had a dozen points off the bench, and sophomore guard Lexi Howe rounded out four Eagles in double-digit scoring with 11 points.
  • The Eagles made 50.0 percent from the field, 48.1 percent from 3-point range and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line.
  • On the flip side, the Saints were kept to 31.3 percent from the floor, and they missed all eight of their attempts from beyond the arc.
UP NEXT
A key conference road game on Thursday (Jan. 16) at 5:30 p.m. at Findlay (14-3, 7-1), which will go into the contest with a nine-game win streak.
