On Saturday (Sept. 14) night in Big Rapids, Mich., Ashland University's football team lost 43-3 to No. 7-ranked Ferris State.

The Eagles are 0-2, and the Bulldogs are 2-1.

Ferris scored 13 seconds in, as wide receiver Taariik Brett went 90 yards for a score on the game's opening kickoff. The Bulldogs extended their early advantage to 14-0 with 8:10 to go in the opening quarter when quarterback Trinidad Chambliss went in from a yard out on a run.

Ashland got on the board with 4:29 to go in the first when junior kicker
A.J. Rhodes connected on a 30-yard field goal. A 32-yard field goal attempt early in the second quarter, however, was missed, leaving the score at 14-3.

Ferris State moved to a 20-3 lead with 10:11 left until halftime when running back Kannon Katzer scored on a two-yard touchdown run. The Bulldog lead became 27-3 with 6:29 remaining in the half following a 12-yard scoring pass from Chambliss to wide receiver Jeremiah Lee.

A safety put FSU's lead at 29-3 with 5:30 on the second-quarter clock, and the first-half scoring ended with 22 ticks to go when Chambliss scored on a seven-yard run – making the score 36-3 at the break.

Chambliss connected with wide receiver Tyrese Hunt-Thompson for an 11-yard scoring pass early in the third quarter for the game's final margin.
