Crumbacher Sets Program Points Record, Eagles Tie Program Wins Record Vs. Dragons

There was a lot to celebrate for Ashland University's women's lacrosse team on Saturday (April 6) afternoon at Ferguson Field.

First was the 21-5 Great Midwest Athletic Conference home win over Tiffin, which moved the Eagles to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the league. The victory tied the program record for single-season wins, and it puts AU in a first-place tie with Walsh with three regular-season games to play.

Then, there was the single-game record set by sophomore attacker Rachel Crumbacher, who became the first Eagle to score 11 points (six goals, five assists) in one game. That broke the previous program mark of 10 points, set four previous times.

Said Crumbacher, "I don't think any of us could do it without each other. My teammates, they set me up for success. I think having all the support we do have with each other, we are all a threat to goal this year."

"She's heating up at the right time," said Ashland head coach Lauren Simko of Crumbacher, who has scored 32 points (19 goals, 13 assists) in the last five games.

Ashland's 21 goals also were one short of the school record of 22, set vs. Lewis in 2019.

The Dragons are 5-7, 3-1.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
  • Ashland's balanced offensive attack on Saturday also featured sophomore midfielder Ashley Fisher (four goals, one assist), fifth-year midfielder Madie Gash (one goal, four assists), and sophomore midfielder Lauren Hinders and fifth-year attacker Cassady Becker (three goals, one assist each).
  • The Eagle defense continues to shine, having allowed just 11 goals in the last three games, and single-digit goals five times overall this season.
  • "It's hard to get in. They move very strongly as a unit," said Simko. "They move very, very well. They are locked in."
  • Ashland out-shot Tiffin on Saturday, 36-16.
UP NEXT
The game for first place outright in the Great Midwest on Tuesday (April 9) at 4 p.m. at the Cavaliers (7-4, 4-0).

"We've had this game circled on our calendar since the last time we played them," Simko said. "I think we are in a much better spot than we were at this time last year to get this win."
