No. 9 Eagles Lose Opener At Northwood, 6-5

In its first game away from Ashland since March 9 – and after 14 consecutive home games – the No. 9-ranked Ashland University baseball team lost 6-5 at Northwood on Friday (April 5).

The Eagles, who started the day in first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, are 22-4 overall and 9-2 in the league. The Timberwolves move to 14-13, 9-4.

Ashland's winning streak ended at eight games on Friday. The Eagles have had a nine-gamer and an eight-gamer so far in 2024.

Friday's opener began with the Eagles scoring a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout by junior third baseman Jeremiah Cangelosi – his team-leading 26th RBI of the season. Junior first baseman Cam Scott followed with an RBI single in the top of the second for a 2-0 AU advantage.

The Timberwolves countered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, then Ashland quickly came back with three runs in the top of the fifth when Cangelosi drove in two more runs with a single and junior left fielder Max Caron followed with a run-scoring safety.

Northwood re-took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a single run, and Ashland was kept hitless over the last 4 1/3 innings.

  • Junior center fielder Cam Miller went 2-for-5 and scored two runs.
