Softball Loses Two On Second Day Of Florida Trip

On Monday (March 4) in Florida, Ashland University's softball team lost 6-5 to Concord and 3-2 in eight innings to Minnesota State-Mankato.
 
Game 1 vs. the Mountain Lions saw the Eagles (4-7) take a 5-2 lead through 4½ innings before Concord scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning and once in the seventh.
 
After seven scoreless innings vs. the Mavericks, Mankato scored three times in the top of the eighth, and Ashland plated two runs in the bottom of the frame.
 
POST-GAME NUGGETS
  • Against Concord, junior first baseman Lily Rockwell was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, and junior shortstop Maddy Burdette went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Junior pitcher Cassidy Shaffer (0-2) allowed five hits, four runs (three earned) and no walks and struck out one in 1 2/3 innings.
  • Senior pinch-hitter/left fielder Hailey Krinn drove in AU's two runs against Mankato, and sophomore pitcher Delaney Lis (1-3) yielded two hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks and whiffed three in four relief innings.
