Baseball Takes Second Straight Florida Decision, 11-9, Over Minnesota Crookston

On Sunday (March 3), Ashland University's baseball team won its second straight game on its annual Florida Spring Break trip, 11-9, over Minnesota Crookston.
 
The victory moves the Eagles' record to 5-1 – the second consecutive season AU has won five of its first six games. The Golden Eagles are 4-6.
 
Ashland's four pitchers combined to strikeout 18 Crookston batters, with sophomore right-hander Drew Becker (1-1) leading the charge with seven whiffs in 2 2/3 relief innings. Senior righty Justin Dyksma earned a save for the second consecutive day after recording all five of his outs via strikes.
 
POST-GAME NUGGETS
  • Junior designated hitter Ben Peltz went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, and junior Sam Witt and graduate shortstop Devin Hukill each had two hits and two RBIs.
  • Ashland has scored double-digit runs in three of six games so far in 2024.
