Softball Takes Two At Home From Arrows

Thanks to 10-0 (5 innings) and 8-4 wins on Friday (March 29) at Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, Ashland University's softball team will go into April having won seven of its last eight games.

Friday's victories move the Eagles to 13-14 overall and 7-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Arrows are 5-17, 0-8.

Game 1 saw Ashland put up crooked numbers in each of the first three innings – four in the first and three each in the second and third.

The end of the twinbill was much of the same, as the Eagles posted four runs each in the bottom of the first and third frames.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
  • In Game 1, freshman left fielder Delaney Maynard, junior designated player Cassidy Shaffer and freshman third baseman Sophia Martin each had two RBIs. Maynard was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two doubles.
  • Junior pitcher Bryn Grabowski (4-4) twirled a complete-game five-inning one-hit shutout, striking out three and walking four.
  • Game 2 saw Martin drive in two more runs, while both sophomore second baseman Danielle Robbins and Shaffer each had two hits. Shaffer will take a seven-game hitting streak (13-for-22, .591) into the new month.
  • Shaffer (2-3) also was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, allowing four hits, two runs and a walk and striking out one in three innings of relief. Freshman Madison Milligan went the final three innings for her first collegiate save.
