Softball Sweeps Saints At Home, Has Four-Game Win Streak

Thanks to 6-2 and 4-1 wins on Sunday (March 24) against Thomas More at Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, Ashland University's softball team continues to work its way back toward the .500 mark.

The Eagles have won four games in a row, and are 10-13 overall and 4-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Saints are 5-19, 0-4.

Ashland's 10 runs in the doubledip came in three innings. In Game 1, the Eagles plated all six of their runs in the bottom of the third – the highlights being a two-run double from freshman left fielder Delaney Maynard and a two-run home run from junior designated player Cassidy Shaffer.

Then, in the second game, Ashland scored three times in the bottom of the third when senior catcher Jordyn Severns launched a three-run homer. AU tacked on its fourth run in Game 2 in the fourth on a Severns RBI single.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
  • Junior pitcher Bryn Grabowski (3-4) threw five shutout innings in Game 1, striking out five and allowing three hits and a walk. Maynard and Shaffer each had two hits and two RBIs, both of Maynard's hits being doubles.
  • Game 2 saw Shaffer (1-3) also authored five shutout frames, giving up three hits and three walks and whiffing three. Severns was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored, while sophomore center fielder Ashley Veldheer went 2-for-3 and crossed the plate once.
