Ashland University's baseball team is accomplishing things the program hasn't seen in a long time.
Â
On Saturday (March 16) afternoon at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, the Eagles improved to 12-1 after a 7-5 win over Davenport (3-15). This is Ashland's best 13-game start in head coach
John Schaly's tenure, and the best for the program since 1987 (also 12-1).
Â
The Eagles' big inning on Saturday came in the bottom of the third, when they scored three runs on a Panther error and RBI doubles from sophomore catcher
Collin Overholt and junior first baseman
Ben Peltz.
Â
POST-GAME NUGGETS
- Ashland, now on a nine-game winning streak, rapped 14 hits in the victory, led by sophomore designated hitter Ryan Shimek, who was 3-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and an RBI. Junior third baseman Jeremiah Cangelosi drove in two runs on sacrifice flies.
- Junior right-hander Ethan Stevens (2-0) earned the relief win after 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and senior righty Justin Dyksma picked up save No. 3 in 2024 after 2 1/3 scoreless frames.
